A former Hg occurrence/mine located in sec. 35, T8S, R1E, MDM, 2.1 km (1.3 miles) WNW of New Almaden, N of the Victoria shaft on Randol tunnel, on county owned land (Almaden Quicksilver County Park). Discovered in 1871. Operated from 1871 to 1896. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is hosted in rocks of the Franciscan Complex (Late Cretaceous serpentinite). The ore body is irregular, strikes E and dips 50N at a thickness of 7.62 meters, width of 60.96 meters and a length of 396.24 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included local fractures trending N. Local alteration includes silica carbonate alteration of serpentine. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
Local geologic structures include a serpentine-sediment contact.
Workings include underground openings with a length of 8,046.5 meters.
