A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 28, T19N, R10E, MDM, 0.8 km (0.5 mile) SW of Forest, along the S canyon wall of Oregon Creek at American Flat (1¾ miles NW of Alleghany), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in serpentinite and Late Permian schist. The deposit occupies a shear zone. The ore body strikes N and dips W. The vein is on a contact of serpentine and slaty schist and dips steeply W. The shear zone exposed in the creek bed strikes N and dips steeply W and is probably the same as the one that crops out W of the Amethyst shaft. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Total production was said to have produced $20,000 (period values).
Production data are found in: Ferguson, Henry G. & R.W. Gannett (1932).
