An apparent Au-Cr occurrence/prospect located in sec. 29, T19N, R10E, MDM, 2.3 km (1.4 miles) WSW of Forest, along the W canyon wall of Lucky Dog Creek (E of the S workings of the Eureka Mine; 2 miles NW of Alleghany), on National Forest land. Owned by Robert Evans (1918- ). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in gabbro and granite. The ore body strikes NW and dips NE. The vein may be continuous with the E branch of the Eureka vein. Many other small veins of irregular attitude occur but mainly with a N strike and W dip. The gabbro is cut by small granite dikes which strike generally N. In some of the smaller dikes are irregular vein-like, segregated deposits of quartz that also contain a little chalcedony. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of adits on both sides of the creek and a 20 foot deep shaft.
Production was 4 long tons of Cr ore.
