A Mn occurrence located in sec. 34, T29N, R11W, MDM, (location approximate), 4.3 km (2.7 miles) ENE of Red Mountain (coordinates of record), at the head of the main branch of Hayfork Creek, about 1 mile due S of the upper end on the Union Chrome Company's road), on National Forest land. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a Mn occurrence hosted in chert. Prominent cliffs of manganese-stained chert dip steeply NE. Adjoining on the SE is the wide belt of chrome-bearing serpentine, which occupies the summit region S of Wildwood. Psilomeland and pyrolusite occur in thin bands, and psilomelane in thin films on chert and in intersecting veinlets cutting chert. All fracture planes are coated with iron and manganese oxides. Fresh chert is light gray, faintly banded, carrying small amounts of manganese oxide. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 9 (Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified surface openings/operations.
