Treskerby and Chance United Mine (incl. Treskerby Mine; Wheal Chance), Redruth, Camborne - Redruth - St Day District, Cornwall, England, UK

UK Grid Reference: SW716438
Latitude: 50°14'57"N
Longitude: 5°12'15"W
This mine was formed in 1828 by amalgamation of Treskerby Mine and Wheal Chance. Both mines were working lodes in metamorphosed killas overlying the northern flank of the Carn Marth granite. The Treskerby sett adjoins the eastern boundary of Wheal Boys, marked by the County Crosscourse, which also defines the boundaries of the mines further north. To the east, it is adjoined by Wheal Chance. The shafts and workings were located on both sides of the Redruth-Truro road, but much of this area is now built over. To the south, the sett once extended 900 yards SE of Treskerby village, and for some time also included the Park-an-Chy Mine. Some dumps are located in woodland south of the Redruth-Turo road.

The mines were already active in 1800, and were abandoned a couple of years after their amalgamation. In 1860, the property was re-opened and partially dewatered. From 1815 to 1832, 47,545 tons of 9.5% copper ore were produced. During that period, the Treskerby section also raised 9 tons of black tin. Another 18,500 tons of 9% copper ore were produced from 1922 to 1927. Due to wolframite-bearing ore having been found in the dumps of Treskerby Mine, prospection works were carried out in 1938, but the source of the tungsten ore was not encountered.
