Man of War (Man O'War) Gneiss, Lizard Point, Landewednack, Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, England, UK

The Man of War Gneiss occurs at the southern end of Lizard Point, where it is exposed mainly in off-shore reefs and appears to have intruded the Old Lizard Head Series by lit-par-lit injection of quartz and feldspar. The multiple folding of the gneisses, similar to that of the enclosing rocks, suggests that they are an early, and probably pre-peridotite, intrusion.
