Tadong Fe deposit, Dunhua Co., Yanbian Chaoxianzu Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province (Manchuria; Dongbei Region), China

Large-scale volcanogenic-sedimentary Fe deposit, hosted in the Silurian Hongguang Formation in a well-defined horizon. The footwall and hanging wall units are diopside marble, diopside- and biotite-lepitynite and biotite-plagioclase gneiss, amphibolite, and migmatite. The orebodies are concordant to host rock and are mainly stratiform or laminated with minor lenses. The main ore structure is banded. Other ore structures are veinlets and disseminations, laminations and masses. Alteration minerals are pyrite, biotite, chlorite and epidote and local actinolite and carbonate. The deposit is generally interpreted as a metamorphosed marine volcanic-sedmentary deposit. However, some researchers favor an origin as a metamorphosed sedimentary deposit.
