(Laacher See Komplex, Eifel, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland)
Pyroclastic formation of several eruptive centres in the area of Mendig and in the northern part of Laach Lake with tuffs, ash-flows and pumice layers of phonolitic and trachytic composition. Late stage eruption of grey tuffs (“Graue Laacher-See-Tuffe”) with xenoliths of different origin (fragments of the Devonian basement, quartz veins, micaschist, crystalline schist, metasomatites, subvolcanites, sanidinites and tephrites).
There are various mineral localities around the lake - pumice quarries, sand pits and road cuts.
The most significant ones are:
- Pumice quarries south of Thelenberg mountain
- Pumice quarries in the area of Wingertsberg mountain
- Pumice quarries in the area “In den Dellen”
- Pumice quarries east of Krufter Ofen mountain
- Fields west of Laach lake, near Glees
