Rwanda

Since January 2006, the twelve prefectures (provinces) of Rwanda were abolished and replaced with five entities: Eastern Province (Province de l'Est), Western Province (Province de l'Ouest), Northern Province (Province du Nord), Southern Province (Province du Sud), and Kigali City Province (Ville de Kigali). These are subdivided into thirty districts.
Previously, in January 2002, the status of divisions changed from prefegitura (French: préfectures; prefectures) to intara (provinces).
