An old colliery, Ty Trist was sunk in 1834 by the Ebbw Vale Company. During the First World War, over a thousand men were employed here.
Ty Trist Colliery closed in 1959 after working for 125 years. Extensive landscaped and overgrown dumps remain, some now forming a school playing field.
