San Benedetto Mine, Iglesias, Carbonia-Iglesias Province, Sardinia, Italy

(Miniera San Benedetto, Iglesias, Carbonia-Iglesias, Sardegna, Italia)

This mine is interesting for the occurrence of gaspéite. The S. Benedetto Mine ore bodies are massive and not concordant with embedding rocks.

The minerals are mainly Zn carbonates and Fe hydroxides. Main ores start to be found present at around 50 m depth from this alteration area, but still at 200 m of depth among sphalerite and galena, there are considerable masses of oxides, in which cavities also gaspéite has been found.
