The locality is a 1-1.5 m wide calcite/pyrolusite vein cutting through granitic gneiss and amphibolities. In the period between 1917-19 the vein was followed 137 m underground. Today, a number of minerals, predominantly microminerals, has been identified.
This locality has often been mislabelled just "Ålefjær", the correct one should be Kivikdalen (Breivik et al. 2007).
