Brennkogel Mt forms part of the Hohe Tauern main ridge, that geographically separates Salzburg and Carinthia; minerals reported from its southern slopes are listed for Carinthia. The Brennkogel massif mainly consists of serpentinites. At the summit and northwest of it, Ca-rich micaschists and phyllites are exposed. A system of quartz-carbonate veins disseminating the serpentinites below the summit was worked for gold in the past. The portals of several adits are still visible on the slopes, but they are inaccessible. The mineralization is largely unknown, since only very few specimens still survive.
