Iron Ridge District (Neda Iron District), Dodge Co., Wisconsin, USA

The Iron Ridge/Neda Iron District is a formation of oolitic iron ores that formed along the Niagria Escarpment. The ore body runs from northern Iron Ridge to southern Mayville and runs evenly along highway 67. The district saw mining from the 1850's to 1915 and during that time four mines and one limestone quarry sprung up in the area, yeilding millions of tons of mid to high grade ore. While the iron mining industry in Dodge County is long dead the Mayville White Lime Works though not yeilding any iron, still quarries limestone for cement and constuction purposes. The four iron mines were, the Mayville Open Pit Mine, The Mayville Shaft Mine, The Iron Ridge Mine, aka Neda Mine, and the Unnamed Mine. There was also an ochre pigment prospect known as the Neda Paint Pit located within the district.
