Suwanose Island, Tokara Archipelago, Kagoshima Prefecture, Nansei Archipelago, Japan

Very active volcanic island with composite stratovolcano, 790 m high. Composed mainly of pyroxene andesite, sometimes olivine-bearing. Warnings: Much of the island composed of very steep, unstable slopes. Enormous numbers of leaches lurking in damp vegetation!
