Cuyuna North Range, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, USA

District consists of a semicircular area 5 miles in diameter north-northwest of Ironton, Minnesota. The ores are typical banded iron formation that have been metamorphosed and later concentrated into both brown and red hematite ore. Some of the mines also contain significant manganese mineralization. Ores have been mined both by underground methods as well as by open pit mining. The open pits are now filled by lakes.
