Sinkhole Mine, Bandana, Mitchell Co., North Carolina, USA

Granite pegmatite that has been mined since ancient times. Located at Bandana, near Micaville. First prospected by Native Americans for the mica which was used as ornamental items, the mine closed in the 1960's.
produced high grade "ruby" sheet muscovite.
