Bumpus Quarry, Albany, Oxford Co., Maine, USA

Granite pegmatite. Oxford pegmatite field. A feldspar quarry, opened in 1927. Mica, beryl, and rose quartz were byproducts.Long open pit with an upper and lower tunnel. Noted for its large volume of massive rose quartz, and giant crystals of beryl found there - up to 11 meters long by 1.5 meter in diameter. Crystal pockets were small and uncommon. Now a fee locality. (Note: On the satellite image, the Bumpus Quarry is a tiny black water-filled area immediately above a comparatively enormous road metal quarry.)
