The Demix-Varennes quarry is an operating quarry and a "mini Mont St Hilaire"(see Mineral. Rec. 29, 83-118). The quarry is exploiting an alkaline sill 12-20 m thick that covers a large area. It is on the municipal boundary of the towns of Varennes and Saint-Amable. The gate is located at the Varennes end but the workings and crushing plant are in St-Amable (approx. 1.6 km from the gate).
