Fuxian Kimberlite field, Wafangdian Co., Dalian Prefecture, Liaoning Province (Manchuria; Dongbei Region), China

Diamond deposit, located in the Fuzhou Basin in Eastern Liaoning uplift of the North China Platform. The basement rock consist of Archean granite and gneiss that is overlain by Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary rock in a N-NE-trending synclinorium. Kimberlite occurs along EW striking faults in the basement and the NE-striking faults in overlying rock. The major Tanlu fault zone is the main structure.

Eighteen kimberlite pipes and 58 kimberlite dikes occur in the area. The pipes are complicated and irregular. Eight of them are economic, with an average grade of 50 mg/m3. A maximum grade of 308 mg/m3 occurs in pipe No. 50. The kimberlite dikes occur along fractures that strike N-NE and dip at 70° to 80°. They are parallel to each other and eight intensely-carbonate-altered ones bear diamonds. Of these, dike no. 69 is the richest, with a grade of 327 mg/m3. The diamond hardness is more thon 88,000 kg/mm2. Most diamonds are transparent and with a strong adamantine luster.
