The Subpolar or Nether-Polar Urals include the highest peaks of the range: the mounts Narodnaya (1895 m), Karpinsky (1878 m), Kolokolnya (1724 m), Zaschita (1808 m), Mansi-Nyor (Didkovsky) (1778 м), Komsomola (1729,4 m), Neroyka (1645 m), and Manaraga (1662 m). They extend for more than 225 km from the source of the Khulga River in the north to the Shchugor River, near Mount Telpoziz, in the south.

The Nether-Polar Ural are higher, and up to 150 km (93 mi) wider than the Polar Urals. The many ridges are sawtooth-shaped and dissected by river valleys. Both Polar and Nether-Polar Urals are typically Alpine; they bear traces of Pleistocene glaciation, along with permafrost and extensive modern glaciation, including 143 extant glaciers.

Description: Manganiandrosite-(La) occurs as small brown-red grains in Mn-rich concretions in a coarse grained sansdstone (arkose). The concretions vary from 3x5 to 10x30 cm across, and consist of mostly the same minerals as the sandstone, but are enriched in Mn-rich minerals, predominantly spessartine, piemontite and ardennite-(As), but also manganiandrosite-(La), zircon, monazite-(La), xenotime-(Y), chernovite-(Y), Nd-rich chernovite-(Y), gasparite-(Ce) and arsenoflorencite-(La). Most of these minerals were first identified in heavy mineral concentrates from the concretions.
