A former placer PGE (Pt-Os-Ir)-Au occurrence/mine located in secs. 14 & 15, T6N, R5E,HM, 0.9 km (3,000 feet) W of Salyer along the main channel Trinity River, E of its confluence with the South Fork Trinity River (covers 7/8 mile of stream), on National Forest land. Operated by P. P. Hammer (1918). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10,000 meters (sic).

NOTE: This locality is listed as the Hammer property in the USGS MRDS database; whereas, Pemberton (1983) presents it as the Kammer property.

Mineralization is a placer Au-PGE deposit (Deposit model: Model code 119; USGS model code 39a; BC deposit profile C01. C02; model name: Placer Au-PGE; Mark3 model number 54), hosted in Holocene gravels. The ore body is a stream sediment deposit at a thickness of 14.33 meters. Controls for ore emplacement
were stream hydraulics. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).

Related tectonic structures include: Klamath Mountains Accreted Terrane.

Workings included surface hydraulic operations over an area of 358.16 hectares. Actual mining took place on benches above the stream level.

Production data are found in: Logan (1918).

Production information: Other grade range of 0.0026-0.0065 ounces/ton PGE (90-220 ppb). Au also reported. PGE was coarser than expected and contains a large proportion of Osmiridium.

Analytical data results: Pt:Au = 4 ounces/$1,000 (1:12.09) at one place (Logan, P. 87).
