Historical mining area from the middle of the XIXth century (1852). The mines worked lead-antimony-zinc ores inside large gossan masses. The adits are both sides Los Sauces stream, close to the Monastery Nuestra Señora de las Nieves. The adits have yielded interesting specimens of vanadinite, cerussite, and descloizite in vuggy gossan; also antimony-bearing galena partially replaced by cerussite. Most minerals of interest of collectors are secondary species replacing galena, sphalerite and stibnite.
Iron and lead-antimony masses are inside dolomites and brecciated dolomites belonging to Sierra de las Nieves Unit, Triassic age. The deposit has a interesting formation regarding geological conditions as karst and sediments in conjunction with primary ores were reworked by tectonic settings (low angle faults) during alpine orogeny.
