A historical road construction project with vesicular basalt boulders near the Clackamas River.
The locality was productive in the 1960s, when many filiform pyrite specimens were found by mineral collectors interested in micromounts.
The Estacada Pyrite Locality was near milepost 41 on Oregon route 224 east of Estacada.
An enormous boulder was the source of a great many filiform pyrite specimens, but that boulder has been reduced in size decades ago and modern observers suggest that the locality is virtually extinct.
This locality is about in the middle of a section from Big Cliff in the west and Fish Creek in the east [10 km wide] that has occasionally produced filiform pyrite specimens [Mickey Marks and Bill Tompkins, personal information].
Because few specimens from the Estacada area have detailed labels, the specimens attributed to this locality may be "generic".
