Approached along the footpath on the rough track from Ffair Rhos a series of tips of grey slaty rock are dotted up the hillside to a more prominent tip along the ridge at the top of the hill. At the foot of the slope beside the stream is an area of slimes. Amongst the tips are several concrete foundations with bolts fixed into them for an unknown purpose.
At the crest of the ridge is an open shaft collar immediately adjacent to a working that descends at a steep angle into the hillside apparently following a lode that has also been exploited as an open work with a trench that runs along the hillside. A further shaft with several pipes standing proud of the collar is in amongst the flat area at the top of the tips.
Those considerable tips of rock and crushed material are piled against and extend out from the hillside. A partly collapsed timber frame shed with corrugated iron roof and walls is located at the toe of the tips. When I visited in 2018 the shed was torn open and had apparently had a room each side of a crossways passage. Some of the internal wall structure was still in place but looked rather like it might be asbestos sheets and therefore best left well alone.
Here also are various concrete foundations, various pieces of largely disassembled machinery and a considerable settling pond.
The dressing floors were covered by a substantial shed pictured in his book 'Metal Mining in Mid-Wales 1822-1921' by G.W. Hall. This is unsurprising as he ran a venture in the 1950s at the mine to recover the estimated 2% lead in the jigging waste tip. The material was ground in a rod mill and then treated by flotation. "...we were able to produce a satisfactory concentrate, with a good recovery, but extraneous problems unfortunately prevented us from achieving commercial production..."
