A former placer Au-PGE (Pt-Ru-Pd-Rh-Os-Ir) mine (dredge) located in sec. 3, T5S, R14E, MDM, 3.6 km (2.2 miles) E of Snelling, along the S side of the Merced River between river miles 50 & 51. First produced in 1932. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. NOTE: This locality is evidenced on topo maps as a large shaded area of designated dredge tailings.
Minealization is a lacer Au-PGE deposit (Deposit Type: stream placer; Deposit model: 119: Placer Au-PGE), hosted in rocks of the Ingalls complex (gravel and conglomerate). Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Workings presumably consisted of surface dredging operations.
