A former pocket lode Au mine located in sec. 1, T1N, R16E, 1.1 km (3,700 feet) S of Sonora proper, several hundred feet SE of the Sierra Railroad depot in Sonora. Operated in 1940 and in the 1945 timeframe. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
MRDS file #10077938 note: Township, range, and section corrected from literature. MRDS file #10190678 presents T&R value of sec. 6, T1N, R15E, MDM.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 225 foot deep shaft.
Last notable pocket found yielded 386 ounces of Au from 2 tons of mined ore. No other production records found.
This mine worked in a small way around 1945.
