Iron-bearing Dolomite from
Interstate 290/Interstate 495 interchange road cuts, Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA

Locality type:Road Cutting
Classification
Species:Dolomite var: Iron-bearing Dolomite
Formula:Ca(Mg,Fe)(CO3)2
Comments:The primary carbonate in crystals filling gash veins at the locality is ferroan dolomite. It was thought to be siderite but chemical analysis showed only a 10% siderite molecule, and the specific gravity was too low. (Anderson, John R. (1976). Collecting at the I-295 & I-495 Roadcut, Marlborough MA, Greater Boston Gem Mineral Show program guidebook)
