France Stone Co. Custar Quarry
Pugh Quarry is located approximately 4 miles southwest of the town of Weston. It is located on Portage road near the Wood county/Henry county line. Beaver creek runs along the western border of the property. Pugh Quarry is was one of the most famous collecting in Ohio producing excellent specimens of calcite (dogtooth spar variety), celestite, baryte, fluorite, and several other minerals. Unfortunately the site has been closed to collecting due to insurance issues. However, the current working are well below the mineralized area thus no specimen yielding material would be obtainable if the site were still available to collectors.
Note: This quarry is often said to be located in the town of Custar, but it is the France Stone Company office which is located in Custar, not the quarry itself.
