The North Cliff Mining Company was organized in 1858 to work the northern extension of the Cliff Fissure. After one year of work, the shareholders decided to dissolve the company and reincorporate as the Swamscott Mining Company; however, that same year (1859), a special act of legislature changed the name back to North Cliff. Work continued through 1861 when company funds were spent. The mine reopened in 1863 and sunk four shafts. Mining was sporadic, conducted between the company and on tribute, through 1899. The company attempted to reorganize in 1899, but failed to raise enough capital to proceed and shut down operations. If the location can be found, most minerals associated with the Cliff Fissure should be available to collect.
