Ancient anhydrite and gypsum quarries.
Three quarries are situated in a Triassic complex, here named Signols Quarries, in which anhydrite and gypsum were extracted from 1883 to the first years of the 1960s:
- CumbΓ« SuΕdΓ« quarry (the only one with underground works and with dump);
- βl Rapilhun quarry (open pit without dump);
- La CaΕieΕa quarry (open pit without dump).
The only quarry in which the paragenesis with the "red hydrated sulfosalts" occurs is the CumbΓ« SuΕdΓ« quarry.
The minerals of this evaporitic formation have been studied by:
- Colomba (1898, 1909): anhydrite, gypsum, dolomite, hematite, halite, "lithio-magnesiferous mica", pyrite, quartz, sphalerite, sulphur, "tourmaline";
- Barresi (1999), Barresi et al. (2005): fluorite, orpiment, "realgar", stibnite;
- Biagioni et al. (2010, 2011): ambrinoite, enargite, galkhaite;
- Orlandi (2011): βguettardite/twinniteβ, kesterite, orickite, zinkenite;
- Brizio et al. (2014): calcite, celestine, getchellite, guettardite (confirmed), mimetite, sellaite, uraninite, and wulfenite.
Notes on the mineral list:
- The mica occurring at the CumbΓ« SuΕdΓ« quarry is Li-rich.
- The red mineral previously identified as "realgar" is the new species ambrinoite (Biagioni et al., 2011).
- Albite, anatase, brookite, βchloriteβ, hematite, pyrite, quartz, rutile, and "synchysite"(?) from Signols were found in an outcrop not so far away, but not in the quarries themselves and never in the dump of the CumbΓ« SuΕdΓ« quarry.
