New Lead Belt
Mississippi Valley-type base metal deposits.
Part of the Southeast Missouri Lead District.
"The Viburnum Trend is the only subdistrict mined for lead in the Southeast Missouri Lead District in modern day. Six lead mines are currently operational in 2022: the Brushy Creek, Buick, Casteel, Fletcher, West Fork and Sweetwater mines." (Wikipedia page, accessed 4 Februrary 2023).
St. Joe drilled the discovery hole for the Viburnum Trend in 1955 and first production was from the Number 27 mine in Crawford County in mid-1960. The ore is produced from an average depth of 1200 feet.
