All new mineral names, whether valid species or varietal names, should start with a capital letter in mindat.org

The ONLY exceptions are those starting with a greek letter (eg alpha), and then the first character of the western portion of the name should be capitalised.

Jolyon

As I noted below, it would be best if the protocol were to *suffix* "alpha," etc., rather than use them as a prefix. Then Mindat will be in conformance with the currently recommended method for dealing with these. The more people see such entries, the more they'll get into the habit of writing them that way - and the less PC sort problems will crop up.

Now if we can just get the folks tacking names onto new things to follow the convention as well...

Don't need to worry about them. The official mindat.org name doesn't have to match what they print in the journals!

It's my site, and I'll do it how I like winking smiley
