LocalitiesGrand View Mine (Grandview), East Ord Mountain, Ord Mountains, Ord Mining District, San Bernardino County, California, USA

Are the coordinates correct for this locality? Or is it not really assigned to the correct mining district? It seems quite far from the rest of its district.

Alfredo,

Appears the problem is that there are two Grand View Mines, well really a Grand View Mine in the Ord Mountain District (gold and a little silver) and Grandview Mine in Calico District (silver). Getting them separated is a headache, especially since there are authors going back and forth on the spelling.

In the locality description is says, "A former Au-Ag mine located about 2½ miles SE of Calico." But if you measure the distance to the coordinates given, it is more like 23 miles. BTW, those coordinates, already in the Mindat locality record, are from MRDS and I have added that MRDS number to the locality.

Below is a reference saying Ord Mountain District:

Gardner, D.L. (1940), Geology of the Newberry and Ord Mountains, San Bernardino County, California : California Div. Mines Rept. 36: 257-292.
