LocalitiesSoutheastern shoreline, Unnamed Island, Cross Lake, Manitoba, Canada

I thought this might happen. The correct locality is the Gottcha Claim (#22 Dyke), a well established locality.

Richard, Thanks for finding this. I think Jolyon or David are the ones that muck with type localities. Prior to that could you fill in what you know about the Gotcha Claims (I remember it as ClaimS). Then we can worry about this "shoreline" type locality.

Hi Rob:

The reason this is a problem is the vague write-up for the characterization of the type locality.

The Gottcha Claim ( I prefer Dyke # 22 as it is a permanent feature whereas a claim can be cancelled at any time) is the type locality for both Bobfergusonite and Manitobaite and as well has had published work on the Beusite from the locality. Its location has been written up in several publications.

The # 22 Dyke occurs on the shoreline of one or more small island(s) depending on the water level in Cross Lake. It is all the same dyke whichever island it occurs on.

The most current work is: Tait T. T., et al. (2014) Mn-rich apatite from Cross Lake Manitoba, Canada; Goldschmidt Abstracts 2014 p. 2441. The Mn rich apatite she describes eventually got characterized at this new mineral.

Thanks Richard. Have a look at http://www.mindat.org/loc-10127.html Is it right?

Hi Rob:

Looks good. I will put in a couple of new reference, one with a map of the pegmatite. It is the least we can do for a Canadian locality with 3 type species.

Thanks so much!!!
