what is this?

we found this at the coast in France (the shore in Ault). It weights 450 gram and is as large as a smal fist.
I'm sorry the foto is not very good, I try to make a beter one.
We like the rock very much...but what is it, how is it formed? If someone knows...I would be happy to know!

It's a nice group of marcasite crystals, found in the chalk on both sides of the english channel.
