Identity HelpVanadinite on barite

15th Apr 2016 03:09 UTCRanger Dave

I know pictures help, but I don't have a way to take a picture close enough to show fine details.

I just got a beautiful piece with vanadinite on barite. It's from Midbladen, Morocco. Some areas of the barite matrix, which is made up of mostly barite blades, are covered in tiny, clear as glass, crystals. The vanadinite is on one side and the clear, no real shape I can tell, are mostly on the other side. Does anyone know what those clear crystals could possibly be?

Also, I got it on eBay and after the description the seller put AAA+++. Is that some kind of specimen rating system?

Thanks.

Could be cerrusite, but without photo it's just a guess.

Most probably gypsum.

Thanks. That gives me a few things to study. The pictures of cerussite here show some on barite blades, so that could be a possibility. Gypsum crystals can be clear, and small. I'll have to figure out the hardness. Thanks again. I have some homework to do. I'll try to post a picture too.
