Hi,

I recently saw a stibnite specimen from Ecuador on the internet. I've never heard of stibnite from Ecuador but have never seen a mineral specimen from Ecuador in any kind of way.

The locality was Olmeda, Loja, Catacocha, Ecuador. Does anybody know something about this locality or about a stibnite occurence in Ecuador in general?

Best regards
Philip

Philip: "...have never seen a mineral specimen from Ecuador in any kind of way."

The only minerals from Ecuador that I've seen marketed to collectors (in past decades) were gold nuggets and black opal. I have several very low quality ore specimens from base metal mines (Pb-Zn) in Ecuador, and I'd like to take a look at their oxide zones some day, but you're right, Philip, nothing seen yet that would get collectors terribly excited.

For what it's worth, Ecuador apparently issued a series of stamps highlighting minerals a while back (see [stampmin.home.att.net]). If they picked the best for illustration on these stamps, I won't rush out to find specimens from there! Ken
