CALL FOR PHOTOGRAPHS
April 25, 2008 06:19PM
Greetings All,

I have just completed a book manuscript on pegmatites which I hope to have published in the very near future (1-2 years?). This will be a “table-top book written for the non-pegmatite specialist and will cover the basics of pegmatite mineralogy and petrology. I am looking for people to donate photographs for possible inclusion in this book. This call is open to all amateur & professional photographers. If any of you have excellent photographs of pegmatites and pegmatite minerals, please e-mail me. Photos of specific localities, mine shots, etc. are also welcomed. Submissions will be accepted on a continual basis until the book is ready for production.

Photographs can either be good quality prints (so we can scan them) or in digital format (JPEG or TIFF). Digital images should be of high resolution, at least 300 dpi. Resolution higher than 300 dpi is preferred. Please name your photos and include your contact details. Photographers will have their name credited in the book.

This is an opportunity to showcase the amateur and professional photographic skills of many mineral enthusiasts. Thanks again for your interest and photos.

Hey Mike,

better tell the size of pictures required, resolution doesnt say how big the photo is, only how dense points (pixels) it has. So you need to say eg A5/300dpi or 5"x6"/300dpi etc.
I have some pics which may interest you, will send some previews and you can choose which you like.

regards

Resolution for digital photographs in DPI is a meaningless figure.

You need to specify how large you want to print a digital image in order to determine how many DPI are required.

So, for example, if in your book you're printing an image 5 inches by 3.75 inches, and you require to print at a minimum of 300dpi, then you would need to ask for a minimum digital resolution of 1500x1125 pixels.

Mike,

Contact the renowned Jeff Scovil(he has a eponymous website). He might contribute.

If you don't ask, the answer is NO. I'm still learning that, myself.

You are more than welcome to browse my gallery here and if you see something you think you can use then contact me. The Foote Mine encompasses one of the most interesting pegmatites found anywhere and I have several hundred photos from there uploaded here. Thanks, Jason.

Mike,

You can have photos from me. I have lots from Hagendorf pegmatite, 300 dpi shouldn't be a problem if Your book isn't larger than 30x20 cm.

Choose in mindat what You desire. I will sdend You a DVD with the full size pictures in 3200x2400 pixels.
