NOMENCLATURE PROPOSALS APPROVED IN APRIL 2011

IMA 11-A: The proposal on the correction of
the brunogeierite formula and change of its
classification is accepted. The ideal end-member
f ormula of brunogeierite becomes
(Fe2+)2Ge4+O4. The mineral should be classified
as a nesogermanate, a member of the ringwoodite
group.

IMA No. 2010-083 Windhoekite Ca2Fe3+2.67(Si8O20)(OH)4·10H2O

I find it strange that this mineral has been named Windhoekite, and not Tuperssuatsiaite-(Ca). When examininig the mineral (both Windhoekite and Tuperssuatsiaite) you find both Na and Ca in the formula, thus, the first part of the formula should read (Ca,Na)2..... and (Na,Ca)2.... resp. for the two minerals. I assume that the clean end members are very rare.
Windhoekite should then be Tuperssuatsiaite-(Ca), and Tuperssuatsiaite should be renamed Tuperssuatsiaite-(Na)
