Has anyone been there recently? I have been told it is dangerous to go alone as it is on the Mexican drug runner routes. I was last there a few years ago.

KenR- I was there last spring and didn't see a soul. It is VERY remote. I wouldn't go alone. It is quite an interesting location, though. Good Luck!

A renegade gang of Mindat-ers from several different states was spotted there 2 years ago about this time, but that was the only riff-raff in the area. Certainly an interesting and enjoyable place to collect! Access to the Hole is along an east-west route, whereas I'd imagine drug runners prefer north-south (or rather south-north!)

Immigration officials have a fairly visible to nearly invisible presence in this area as in many other areas I've visited just north of the border in AZ & NM.

Enjoy!
