Hello,

Would like to share this new(?) type of aqua from a non-pegmatite deposit.

any comments on the aqua and the other rocks in the images are more than welcome.

Can't upload image from iPhone. In the boonies and laptop screen busted.

Cheers.

How was it determined to be aquamarine? Also what area of the world was this found?

Bluish beryl is very common at the Mount Wheeler beryliium mine in Nevada. Nice phenacite crystals are associated along with fluorite.

The deposit is hosted in limestone. Not a pegmatite within many miles.

The photos are pretty blurry, but I'm not convinced that we're looking at beryl. --Ken

Hi,

I agree with Ken and Jason; it looks familiar but does not look like beryl. In fact, it looks manufactured or similar to that pectolite from the Dominican Republic. I'm not a gem expert so I will wait and see.

Best,

Joe

Have you done any tests? Like hardness?

Without more info it is difficult to guess, but it does not look like beryl/aquamarine. My guess would lean more toward blue opal (it would be very nice opal if that is the case), but my suspicion is that it is man made.
