CROCOITE: A Huge New Crystal Discovery From The Adelaide Mine, Dundas, Tasmania, Australia - 2012

Posted by John Cornish
Hi Everyone,

During October and November of 2012, it was my pleasure to visit the island of Tasmania, off of the Australian coast, to collect from the world famous Adelaide Mine. Adam Wright, mine owner, asked if I could help develop a monstrous crystal pocket they’d, Bruce Stark and Adam, had discovered.

The pocket was completely lined with spectacular, brilliant bright-orange crystals of the lead chromate mineral, CROCOITE. With my tickets, Visa and Passport in hand, I was soon on my way towards one of the most exciting mineral experiences I’ve ever had.

Please come along and share in the fun of this wonderful adventure. Sincerely I hope you enjoy!

John

Hi John

It appears that you do, so I can't view

Cheers
Hi Keith,

Sorry for the hassle, but I just checked the link and it worked fine. Could you please try again. Thank you,

John
I was able to view the link and I'm not a member of Facebook. Great article!
John,
Worked fine for me, and thanks. It gives pause to appreciate what amount of work it takes to bring this stuff to light.
My first thought looking through the photos was 'get to the good stuff.' But by the end I was appreciating how different a world you were into .(I live in suburbia, usa, my mineral collecting consists of picking rocks up off the ground, maybe hammering one open...) Nice buildup.
Look forward to future installments.
John,

What a truly amazing adventure. Combined with the recently released CD, for those who have not had the opportunity to visit the mine, we can still experience these wonders.

Keith

Hi Everyone,

Work continues developing the exceptional crocoite crystal pocket at the Adelaide Mine in Dundas, Tasmania.

To help document this find, Bryan Swoboda of BlueCap Productions was contacted to share this story with the public through video. In the Nov. - Dec. 2012 issue of the Mineralogical Record magazine (Vol. 43, No. 6) featuring a lead article by Thomas P. Moore and Wendell E. Wilson titled Major Crocoite Discoveries at the Adelaide Mine, Tasmania, a complimentary DVD of this exceptional discovery in its earliest stages of development was gifted.

Since this initial filming, as noted above, work has continued to develop this occurrence. To document these newest happenings, Bryan has made a second trip to the mine and has posted a new video taken only days ago of Bruce Stark and I recovering a beautiful crocoite crystal plate from off of the pockets hanging wall. By clicking the link below, you'll also be able to share in the fun!

Sincerely, I hope you enjoy. All the very best,

John
