Do you like micromounts or thumbnails? Do you have something with killer inclusions that deserve the limelight? Perhaps a piece covered with beautiful hair-fine sprays or tufts? Show them all here! This is the place for all those super-closeups where the little are made BIG and shown in all their tiny glory :)

(It would be nice to see a full shot of the entire specimen as well, to get a sense of scale, if you wish.)

Hi Willow,

Here is a pretty little Brazilian inclusion. Perfect little crystal sitting on an Iron Oxide/Chlorite garden :) Completely inside.

Cool thread.

I have added the full photo's Willow. I have circled the area where the little internal crystal is.

Very happy you enjoyed this specimen, it's one of my favourites.

HOLY CRAP, that is absolutely awesome, Craig. Can you also post a full of that to show perspective?
(I'm going to edit my OP to request both macro and full pics for comparison.)

Wow, Craig, it's unbelievable how easy it would be to completely overlook such a little crystal in that size of a specimen! It's like with my one piece that I though was only TWO things, but after really thoroughly examining it found out it was actually five! So small and easily missed. I wish I had a camera that could take such gorgeous photos!

Willow,

As promised, here are some goethite inclusions in amethystine quartz from Brazil. Full-size specimen is 2 cm. Micro-views are 2 mm.

Enjoy!

Steve, you've taken a "simple", plain specimen (to me) and highlighted its amazing almost-hidden beauty! It makes me stop and think that something I'd normally just casually dismiss as being "nothing special" or uninteresting can actually be much more than it first appears! So tiny and so pretty! Another reason I should really consider investing in a loupe.

Willow,

You have captured the essence of micro-mineral collecting for me. It's the thrill of discovering a fascinating world hidden in the ordinary. I feel the same way about fluorescent minerals under UV light.

OK Willow, here's a 3cm silver I picked up at this year's Seattle Mineral Mart. The seller said it was from Michigan, but far more likely to be from Thunder Bay or Cobalt areas

Gorgeous, Eric! The only problem I have with things that grow in sprays or little fuzzy balls is that I can't help but immediately think "Ooh, fuzzy, must touch!" I know better, but it's always my first impulse! They're just so adorable, afterall...(:D

There are really prolific and really good photographers of the Realm Of Small Things among mindat's contributors, but apparently they are too modest to speak up :)

More micros than you can shake a stick at - or you might just want to look through "New Photos Today" every day :
Luigi Chiappino's mindat gallery

Premium pictures of tiny and rare marvels:
Christian Rewitzer's mindat gallery

Stereo (and ordinary 2D) micros, mostly but not only of Mont Saint-Hilaire material:
Modris Baum's mindat gallery

Yours truly has been dabbling in the same genre, though I can't hold a candle to the masters. Maybe this little Pentagonite guy here is worth mentioning again (a crossed-eye stereo pair if you can fuse the two half-images, field of view about 1.4 x 2.4mm, click on the image to see a larger version and the full caption text):

Wow, great photos. It is amazing when you get into the micro world. I need to get a better camera set up someday. Right now I just hold my little Canon to the eyepiece. I started to up load some I took recently but then realized the photos are in my other computer which has fallen ill. I need to send it out to see if it is fixable. I may have to download some of the photos first or take some more. I have them in MY Photos in Mindat but couldn't figure out how to get them from there to here. I clicked on the little Tourmaline next to the smiley face but couldn't figure it out. I will submit something later and just continue to enjoy everybody's photos. Good thread Willow.

Ooh, very nice! In the last pic of the first one, smack dab in the middle, it looks like a little bird! The top right side has a light green circle with a dark green center for the eye, going left and down is a dark green folded wing, and the bottom left is a lighter green tail!

The second one could be looked at like tiny little rosettes (:D

Very nice pictures, everyone! Let's keep this thread going! (*really wishes she could afford a camera that could do this*)
