I think all of the De'an fluorites are covered with quartz when they are found and the quartz is removed with hydrofluoric acid.

Jon, etched out of quartz or not, that is a beautiful specimen! Cookie, my wife, is a fluorite & smithsonite lover and when I called her to the computer to see your specimen all she could say was WOW!!
