Specimen/Stand ??
May 09, 2008 11:50PM
I'm after some help with alternative methods of fixing this specimen to it's stand, I have had a few bad experiences with bluetac, I would also like to be able to remove it easily in the future if need be.

Craig.

One of the main mineral dealers at Inne Suites told me that their technicians liked clear silicone, the kind you can squeeze out of a dispenser to seal edges of bath tubs. If the specimen is supported during the curing, it is fairly strong but can be dissolved away at a later time, has the same neat look of clear hot glue without the temperature issues and without all the little stringies.

Hi Craig.
How good are you with your hands & using a small electric router?
Using glue isn't professional looking & detracts from the look of the specimen.
if your in any way handy you can achieve something similar to what Sunnywood do, buy a base from Jay the standman in Phoenix & go from there, you can buy a straight router cutting bit either 3 or 6mm from Home Depot, i am a carpenter so it wasn't that difficult for me.
as i live in Australia & it wouldn't be practical to mail my specimen to Sunnywood to have it mounted.
lf you need jay address i can give that to you & give you some tips. regards Philip

Thankyou very much for the tips Ray.

Philip I would be very interested in both Jay's address and the tips, this method you speak of sounds very professional looking indeed. My email address is craigmercer@iprimus.com.au

Kindest regards from a fellow Aussie.
Craig.
