Hi
I bought at a show one of the largest Pyrite octohedrons on matrix I've ever seen from the French Creek mine here in PA.
The xl has several significant cracks, but is holding together.
I am inclined to try and insure that it doesn't come apart in the future.
Any ideas on a clear coat/glue that might be appropriate to help bond the xl together?
Thanks
Greg Kokolus

I'm not sure what you can put on the specimen itself, but I use desiccant packets to keep my pyrites dry and slow the decay. This thread may be helpful in giving you some ideas:

Half-inch is certainly above average for a French Creek pyrite octahedron, but not the champion. Sometimes these specimens split and decay due to pyrite disease, and other times due to inclusions such as hematite and actinolite.
I suggest treating it for pyrite disease, then displaying it in a way that avoids any handling, such as on a cabinet shelf in a sealed plastic box.
