Improving Mindat.orgNew Localities Possible Change

5th Jun 2012 04:37 UTCWilliam W. Besse Expert

The 'New Localities' area on the front page is nice, but I am interested in changes that are made to localities that are already there as well. It is possibly more of interest to see changes locality information for general information and species additions.

Possibly it could be changed to 'New & Updates Localities'?

If you are interested in changes in an area, there is the "Locality edit report" that shows you which locations have been added or edited over a period of time (defaults to one month). The actual changes can be seen on the "Show changes log" on the locality page. which is available to full members.

And I get to "Locality edit report" how?

You have to know URL, meaning there is no link point? Would be nice to have. Also you have to add a region (2 characters) to your query so you cannot just do a universal lookup.

It used to be in the Add/Edit menu.

The only thing I see is the "Show changes log" which is only good for that locality you are editing.

That shows the changes which were made to the locality The "Locality edit report" shows which localities have been added/edited.

Combining the reports would get to be a bit too confusing as to what was done where.

I did not think it was a good spot either and I did not consider combining. A link to that report would be nice though.

Some place else. Looking at it I think the "Locality Search" section of the "More search options" page may be the perfect place.

If you like to play with rss feeds http://www.mindat.org/rss_local_new_edit.php will get you most of the locality edits and new entries.

Actually the report is the first option on the Add/Edit page.
