I'd really like to see Mindat's auctions get up and going and screen out the ebay clowns and the obviously manipulated specimens that accompany them smiling smiley

I agree as most of the sellers on ebay tend to be a bit to greedy when there selling stuff which you know fine well are not as expensive as they make out Except the people from forums like ours. It would be a boon to see something like this on mindat as everyone would be treated with respect instead of being treated as a way to maximise profit. Roll on the auctions lol.

As long as words like "RARE", "ULTRA RARE" and words that give a similar notion of importance are kept to a minimum. Perhaps, somehow there could be a review panel that properly grade the specimends being offered - delay the auctions online visibility by a day, possibly so it can be graded sufficiently - No seller (or close acquaintance of said seller) can review their own specimens???

Just a thought. Get sick of seeing "RARE" this that and the other on auction sites when it is not rare at all. Kills the meaning of the word.

Oh - and what about metaphysical properties / sellers? Yay or Nay ? Trade names allowed or mineralolgically correct names w/ chem. formulas only?

I think there are enough sites out there for selling metaphysical stuff, so hopefully it can be kept out of this one!
I agree with you that "rare" should be reserved for minerals that actually ARE rare....I think we're all sick of seeing all that "rare" Brazilian amethyst for sale. smiling smiley

Yay a big """YAY""" for Krissa !! I agree we really need to keep metaphysical off Mindat.....but RARE and ULTRA RARE...what will I use when trying to take up all the avalible word spaces?? lol.

Seriously though Paul you must be super bored or something, you have been going on about this for months...I'm sure Jolyon is trying his hardest to get everything up and running and if you have a look you will see it has been put on the priority list....be patient and enjoy what he is giving you for free.

I have some clever ideas on how to make sure the auctions run smoothly - I won't tell you just yet because I don't want my competitors to know smiling smiley But I will soon (next year) be looking for people to help test the auction system.

I can hardly wait!
I'd be happy to help test it out when the time comes.

Sorry to add this but Mr Mercer is out of line:

I've been going on about it for months Craig? If you open your eyes it's one post mate. The rest are just responses to a topic I raised, and you are one of the responders!

Not super bored actually (I've been in the field and my partnership has discovered 3 new gemstone varieties in the past 6 months that will be released within the next 3 months) and what an arrogant tone you have these days.

Mate, don't tell anyone on here what to do or what they should be appreciative of, each individual differs.

Thanks very much for posting an answer Jolyon.

Craig, Mindat don't need you playing wanna-be moderator and junior protector. You are a on the same level as the rest of us.

Lol....feel better now Paul, hey congrats on the new "gemstones" as you put it !!! and seriously Paul a while ago you were ranting and raving about the auctions taking to long and it throwing you to the Minvision and other sites when you clicked on Mindat Auctions...actually you were going on like a real clown if I remember correctly and were straightened out by Jolyon then. Just one other thing don't call me mate unless you are in front of me as you know perfectly well that's fighting talk in Australia.

In conclusion (MATE) be patient.

Craig.

Trying to keep calm Uwe, but this one is always the agitator. It doesn't seem like he even reads posts properly before he rants, ie new gemstone variety, not "new gemstone". I suggest he be banned for a short period while he mentally collects himself.

Talk of fighting on Mindat! It is not appropriate for this forum (or any forum), which is scientifically based.

Craig, don't write verbal cheques you physically can't cash. It's easy to play the big man when on the internet, but if you came across me in reality you'd run up a tree.

Sorry Uwe, but he should learn appropriate courtesies for this type of forum. He is insulting and continually provocative. He even signs off with an insult.

Do the moderators recall me "going on like a real clown" about the auctions and how does Mercer get away with what others would be booted for?

I will stay in contact with you Uwe about the new varieties and supply you with all elemental and gemmological data on public release for inclusion on Mindat.

Mindat is a great service, please don't let people like Craig ruin it for others.

I will not post further on this subject as Craig has taken it into the realm of fantasy, and other members should not be subjected to his unprofessional outbursts.

Paul I don't know why I'm even bothering to respond to such a childish outburst....but please just stick to the facts and don't get carried away emotionally that's only causing waves.

In future please think about what your saying first and try to be a little less abrupt as this will solve nothing.

I look forward one day soon to meeting you in person so as we can build some bridges and I can cash my cheque.

Lastly Paul back to the point of this, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Jolyon has to offer with the auctions as well but let's just give him time to get it as close to perfect as possible then I'm sure it's going to be a blast to watch.

Signing off without an insult like normal.
Best wishes.
Craig.
