collecting trips

Hello,

I am a teenaged mineral collector and have collected minerals since I was 4. Recently, instead of buying specimens, I have become very interested in going out on collecting trips however this is very difficult for me as I am under 18 and most quarries/mines won't allow someone my age on site. Does anyone know any good locations anywhere in the south of England that I won't need permission to visit?

Hi Adam.

It depends where in the South of England you are, but there are a few options, and a few places I like to visit when I can (I live in South London).

If it's not too far, I'd strongly suggest joining the Sussex Mineral and Lapidary Society (SMLS) - they organize many field trips and at least 50% of them are open to under 18s.

There may also be opportunities for you to join one of my trips in the south east.
